The Lyrian Sea

The The Lyrian Sea series in reading order: 1 book reviewed on The Bookish Elf, first published in 2026.

Book 1 in one line: Aveyard's first adult novel is a pirate epic with almost no magic in it, a slow-burn romance told backwards, and a heroine whose defining act is a betrayal. Long, patient, and built entirely for the sequel.

It Ends Here by Heidi Perks

Psychological Thriller October 9, 2026 0

A gunshot at 7.26 on a Monday morning, a shuttered marina café and five people inside, one of whom is holding the gun. Heidi Perks turns a hostage siege into a guessing game played across a single morning, and mostly wins it, though the middle stretch circles before the end lands.

The Red Pony by John Steinbeck

Literary Fiction October 9, 2026 0

Four linked stories about a ten-year-old boy on a Salinas Valley ranch, each one teaching him something nobody intended to teach. Frequently handed to children, and one of the least consoling books Steinbeck wrote.

Bad Words by Rioghnach Robinson

Romance October 9, 2026 0

A novelist whose million-dollar debut was sunk by one review corners the critic who wrote it, and their six-minute fight goes viral. Robinson's sharp, funny romance is really about the fear of being disliked, though its online villains are flat and the late crisis is contrived.
