A Dark Spell of Secrets, Sorcery, and Survival

Leigh Bardugo’s prose in Ninth House is richer, darker, and more introspective than her earlier work. Where Six of Crows was gritty and fast-paced, Ninth House lingers. The language is moody, often baroque, but never indulgent.

Broken Rival by Tessa Bailey

Romance 0
A scientist's daughter stranded fifty years in the past is taken in by a Kansas pastor's family, loved by one son and loathed by the other. Bailey's first move away from comedy is a big, swoony, sometimes bloody time-travel romance whose rivalry is its engine and whose worldbuilding talks too much.

Victorious by V.E. Schwab

Fantasy 0
Victor Vale is powerless, running out of medicine and counting the hours, while a soft-spoken new director remakes EON from the inside. Schwab's Villains finale is a two-clock thriller that pays off three books of rivalry, with a slow present-day strand and a crowded last act.
