Book Review: The Gift of the Gab

Communication is one of the first things–if not the first thing–we learn as human beings. Transforming our words and the way we listen is an art and just like art each person is its beholder and holds different perspectives, therefore this book, The Gift of the Gab, can be comprehended in many different ways.

Hory Sankar Mukerjee shares some essential guidelines about effective communication in his book The Gift of the Gab. The way he portrays communicating as an art could not be any truer for me. Living your life by the standards and ideas that are shared here will transform your life for the better. Internalizing the teachings of this book and practicing them daily is essential to forming the habit of a more loving and compassionate way to communicate with yourself and with others.

Mr. Mukerjee has definitely learned over his career how to communicate well with others. The author is truly an expert in this field and conveys the message in the most lucid and simplest way possible. The anecdotes and examples used to reinforce the concepts are perfect and genuinely appeals to everyone who reads the book.

The tips and counsel author offers within these pages almost seem too simple, yet most effective. He identifies various practices of those who are adept at socializing and public speaking, from self-deprecating humor to projecting confidence. This is a pithy practical manual with grounded examples, and folksy anecdotes and quotations. Each chapter ends with advice about how to employ each principle. The book was a great learning experience. If you want to communicate more effectively–through leadership, through speaking or writing–this is a great place to start.
