“Oh God, it’s high time you do something about it. It’s not 1864 that he will court you for months and months without actually doing anything about it,” Piya said exasperatedly.

“Well, I like this, the courtship thing,” Nikita said avoiding Piya’s stern look.

“This isn’t a fairytale,” Piya said.

Nikita always believed in fairytales and romance, like it’s depicted in books. But then reality set in and she faced ups and downs making her belief in fairytales fade away.

Will she ever believe in fairytales again?
Does her prince charming actually exist?
Will she find her true love in the face of this reality?
Or will she settle for an arranged marriage and forget it all?

Book Review: Not A Fairytale by Monika Bharti

If royal romances make you squee and swoon, this one’s for you. It is a lovely, wish-fulfilling type of romance story that will fill your heart with hope and wonder and make you wish for your very own prince charming!!

Nikita is smart, sassy, pretty hilarious, and definitely a heroine you can root for. My favourite part about her is that you really believe her belief about prince charming and fairytales. I sort of instantly liked Piya. She grabbed my attention with her sharp wit and humor, but our protagonist, Nikita, kept me there with her drive, ambition, and huge giving heart. Her love and personal investment in society was touching and inspiring, and I really delighted in reading about her humanity project and seeing her in action.

Her family was sort of fantastic too. The exchanges between Nikita, Piya and her brother were so typical, yet special. A great sibling relationship goes a far way with me, and I thought their verbal sparring was lots of fun.

Monika Bharti’s writing and narration styles are straight-forward, eloquent, emphasize dialog over description. She’s great at developing heroines and love-interests that appeal to teenagers.

Not a Fairytale by Monika Bharti is such a fun book to read with a fantastic couple at the centre and some wonderful side characters who never failed to entertain. If you’re in the mood for something light and fluffy then you can’t go far wrong with this and I’m definitely going to be on the look out for more from Author Monika Bharti in the future.
